Andrew’s Story

“A little piece of heaven”

How have you found it today?

Very relaxing.

Can you describe this place for me?

A little piece of heaven. It’s unexpected, it gives some people who couldn’t afford an allotment to actually get down and do a small amount of gardening. And you can see from the furniture, the huts, and tables that it’s a place revered by the people that use it. Revered sounds too formal, loved.

How does it make you feel being in nature?

Being in nature? I’ve always liked it. It’s the first time I haven’t had a garden in my life. We had a house with a small holding on it for some 12 years.

What’s it like being with other people here?

It’s like a family. We’ve been coming here every year. I think I’m right in saying every year. The first time when we came here it was raining. It was raining and we were huddled up over the fire. And I thought it might be quite dubious to succeed but I think Charlotte’s done a tremendous lot. It was spectacular coming in for the quarter when all the flowers were coming out and the other people that use this have done a really great job landscaping it and planting plants. I think we might have borrowed some of their work - their food!
