Mindfulness in Nature with Jiva
An introduction to nature based mindfulness with our newest guest host, Jiva Masheder.
"Perhaps you've heard about how mindfulness meditation can help with stress, anxiety, feeling overwhelmed or just not feeling very present in your life?
It's all true....and backed by research evidence. Many people find practicing mindfulness outdoors easier than inside, and that by being mindful and really noticing what's there, the natural sense of joy and peace that often comes from being outside in nature is increased".
Over a series of 4 sessions, Jiva will introduce you to the fundamentals of mindfulness, using the Plot 22 space as inspiration. You'll be able to apply the approaches learned everywhere you go, helping to find peace and calm even in the middle of a busy life.

Singing Outside
An afternoon session learning and singing together some easy and beautiful part songs and rounds, celebrating nature and the journey of our lives.
Facilitated by Emily from Gathering Light Choir: Gathering Light Choir has been running for about 6 years. The songs are all learned by ear and they all have rousing harmonies and parts. We sing songs that give voice to the rich beauty of life, nature and the heart. We celebrate the seasons together in all sorts of lovely ways and have created a space in the middle of us all where love, loss and things that are sacred to us can be brought and honoured.

Interactive Listening Quest: an ears-first exploration. By Brighton and Hove Music for Connection CIC
Join us for an experience like no other: our inclusive interactive exploration of a beautiful garden in Hove, using fun and creative listening and sound-making tools together to appreciate our senses and shared spaces. We invite you to open your ears to experience and enjoy our surroundings together.
Listening encourages space and pause, invites us to be curious, and requires us to be fully present. Being fully active in listening allows us to attune to the moment, and can be revitalising. We can do it at any time – try it!: when you get to the end of this sentence, stop and open your ears for a few seconds. What did you hear? How did it feel?
Creating listening-based soundpieces together has a high feelgood factor – no musical experience is required, and it’s fun to make something as a group.

Botanical Painting at Plot 22: Enjoy the garden through watercolour with Emma
A gentle and welcoming en plein air painting session at Plot 22. Materials, tea and conversation included.
Hosted by Emma Baars from TheHouseOutside, together we’ll spend time outdoors, observing and responding to the garden as it is on that exact day — noticing what’s growing, what’s shifting, and what quietly draws our attention. This is an invitation to slow down and explore living landscapes on a small scale through watercolour, guided by curiosity rather than expectation.
In early July, the garden is full of small, fleeting moments: the scent of lavender and rosemary just beginning to intensify in the warmth, pea flowers curling into pods, strawberries ripening in flashes of red, and tomato plants stretching taller by the day. You might notice the delicate blossoms of beans and sweet peas, the papery skins forming on garlic, or the first signs of fruit swelling on apple and fig trees. These subtle transitions offer endless inspiration for mark-making, colour, and form.
This session also creates space to reflect on how being in botanical environments can support our wellbeing — how attention, slowness, and connection to growing things can ground and restore us.
No experience is needed — this is a space for everyone. Please get in touch with Emma if you have any questions in advance of the event.
Materials will be provided, but if you have your own watercolour set, you’re very welcome to bring it along. Ticket price includes materials, tea and locally baked organic biscuits.
Come as you are, and spend a few hours noticing, painting, and being present in the garden.

These supportive and lightly facilitated sessions offer a place where we can set aside our daily challenges and enjoy a connection with nature through activities like sowing, digging, planting, weeding, harvesting, or just sitting and enjoying the wildlife. No previous experience of gardening is needed. We welcome new women to come and spend time at PLOT 22 and share in the positive experience it has on our wellbeing.

“No pressure to talk or do anything that makes me feel uncomfortable."
"I really enjoyed the session at PLOT 22. I normally find group things difficult but wanted to stay for longer as it’s so peaceful there."

We are always on the lookout for opportunities to work with likeminded groups and organisations who can help us maximise the benefit of Plot 22. And thanks to the Lottery, we also currently have some funding to help cover costs of hosting collaborative sessions!

Tuesday Gardening
Tuesdays are the day when everyone can come to Plot 22. Tuesday sessions focus on maintaining the Plot’s gardens, and we also cook and share a plant-based lunch together, using many of the ingredients we’ve grown ourselves.
Everyone is welcome to join us for part or all of the day. If you’ve not visited before, Tuesdays are a great way to get a practical and literal taste of what Plot 22 is all about!
Tuesdays are open to all adults. No previous experience of gardening is necessary, just an interest in participating and contributing to the tending of this community garden. There are many ways to contribute and the sessions are supportive and lightly facilitated.
