Nature Learning Handbook for Teachers and Educators

NATURE LEARNING THROUGH THE SEASONS
by Nadia Foley Comer & Emma Houldsworth

Available for full preview and purchase at BLURB online bookstore

The seed for this handbook was planted back in the Autumn of last year, when co-authors Nadia Foley Comer and Emma Houldsworth, were invited to bring the Nature Learning they had shared with a small group of young Eco-Warriors, back to the school grounds for the benefit of all the children. As the project unfolded, this creation has slowly emerged. We’ve called it Nature Learning through the seasons, a handbook for in-school projects.

“This simple guide has been created to inspire and support teachers who want to weave Nature Learning into the school day. It is a practical handbook, bringing together key aspects of Permaculture and Forest School in a thoughtful, easy to understand, accessible way. The strong, simple frameworks will immediately engage both children and adults alike and can help schools build and implement their eco-codes of practice in a deeply embedded way. The calendar of seasonal activities will help teachers structure Nature-based activities, exploratory play, stories, songs, celebrations and wider curriculum learning around the natural cycles. No matter what their experience, this simple approach will help teachers and educators, confidently support children to connect with the magic of Nature around them. Although it is written for schools, anyone wishing to support children’s sensitive exploration of the natural world will find it a rich and practical resource.”
